Melandri back to the top after FP3
Improvements by everybody in final free practice.
As expected with the cooler track temperatures this morning, there were huge improvements from all 23 riders competing at Jerez this weekend.
Marco Melandri (Aprilia Racing Team) who had taken top spot in FP1 yesterday returned to head the combined classification 0.209s ahead of Davide Giugliano (Ducati Superbike Team) and Toni Elias (Red Devils Roma Aprilia) who delighted the locals by grabbing 3rd overall in the closing stages of the session.
Eugene Laverty made further improvements with his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki to move up to 4th with Chaz Davies on the second factory Ducati taking 5th. Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team) edged Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) for 6th as Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team), Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Jonathan Rea (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) rounded out the ten riders who made it into Tissot Superpole 2.
There was disappointment for Leon Haslam (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) who dropped from an overnight 4th to 11th meaning he will have to take part in Superpole 1.
David Salom (Kawasaki Racing Team) elevated himself to the top of the EVO standings in 12th while Imre Toth (Team Toth BMW) claimed the final Superpole qualifying place with 20th overall.
Prior to the session Luca Scassa (Team Pedercini), who rode yesterday was declared unfit and will take no further part in the weekend’s action.
